Petition Started to Keep Services at Glen Cove Hospital

Mayor urges community to prompt hospital to reconsider proposed changes.

Mayor Ralph Suozzi has created an online petition to oppose changes to Glen Cove Hospital.

North Shore-LIJ announced Tuesday that it aims to phase out inpatient bed services while also expanding ambulatory surgery center, medical offices, outpatient cancer services, a community health and outreach center, and physical therapy and rehabilitation.

The changes are necessary, hospital officials said, noting that operations are “unsustainable.” The hospital intends to identify job opportunities within the North Shore-LIJ system for workers affected by the changes.

The petition on on change.org  states:

"Please join us as we urge North Shore - LIJ Health System to postpone and reconsider their plans to tranform Glen Cove Hospital into an Ambulatory Care Only Hospital.  The closing or downsizing of a community hospital has countless negative effects on the immediate and surrounding communities.  Eliminating inpatient beds and transforming the hospital into an ambulatory care facility would be devastating to our residents, our three assisted living communities, nursing home patients, local businesses and real estate, not to mention the effect on our  Emergency Service Corps (EMS), and public health and safety.  Remember, every voice and every signature counts.  Let's work together to SAVE GLEN COVE HOSPITAL."
