Was There Life Before Facebook?

As founder Mark Zuckerberg prepares to make a rare public appearance at TechCrunch Disrupt, we'd love to know what got you to join the party in the first place.

Elusive Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg will speak Tuesday at TechCrunch Disrupt, his first public speech since the company's lackluster initial public offering.

Shares of the social media giant's stock have fallen more than 50 percent since the IPO, though Facebook's hulking popularity still has it well on top of other networking sites online. Who isn't on Facebook these days anyway?

Since the tech world will focus on Zuckerberg at 2 p.m., we'd love to hear what locals have to say about Facebook. Do you remember why you first signed up? Do you have any stories of how the platform helped you in your community? Any complaints (dare we bring up Timeline)?

Share them in the comments below, and please take a moment to answer our poll.
