Glen Cove is Great; Don't Let the Negative Campaigning Fool You Into Voting for Someone with Such a Dim View of the City

Readers of Glen Cove Patch have been hit with a lot of faulty information from the Spinello campaign.  The diatribe has been so negative that it makes you wonder what kind of city Glen Cove would be if Reginald Spinello were to become mayor.  Do you want someone in charge who has such a pessimistic outlook, who thinks city workers aren’t doing their jobs and that we have a lack of good businesses in this city?  Personally, I think Glen Cove works well and the businesses I visit provide terrific service with friendly workers.  We live in a small town atmosphere minutes from the biggest city in the world.

WE live in Glen Cove.  WE know it’s a great city with a beautiful waterfront and few problems.  I can’t think of the last time I needed to call City Hall with a problem or needed a police officer.  Whenever anyone I know needs service from the city, they get it.  This is a safe city by anyone’s standards.  If you don’t believe me, look at the ranking on NeighborhoodWatch.com where Glen Cove is listed as the 13th safest city in the nation.  They use FBI statistics.

Downtown, we enjoy all the amenities there – the restaurants, the shops, plenty of parking and we’ll welcome the movie theatre when it returns early next year.  As for the stores that are vacant near Village Square, there’s a reason.  Those were vacated because ground will soon be broken for the Piazza development.

Don’t listen to the hype.  Listen to what you know and what you experience when you walk or drive along School or Glen Streets.  What I see when I’m there are parking spots that are full, people walking, especially on Glen Street, and plenty of activity.  There are also some really good restaurants and stores on Forest Avenue and Cedar Swamp Road  What are we missing?  Not much.

Spinello says we haven’t welcomed any new business lately.  That’s untrue.  Several opened during the past couple of weeks alone, including The View Grille and the Green Forest Veterinary Hosptial; more are on their way.  Do you think the DiNoto Group would have spent millions to purchase Glen Cove Cinemas if it didn’t believe in Glen Cove?

And how about our waterfront?  It’s beautiful and getting better.  We may have one beach that has been closed, but Morgan Beach and Prybil were open this season and plenty of us enjoyed what they had to offer.  These beaches are clean, they’re safe and they’re convenient.

My family enjoys kayaking and we did plenty of that this summer, most often near Garvies Point.  Have you been down there lately?  The new ferry landing is gorgeous and the parkland around it is beautiful.  The environmental clean-up is 99% done.

Please make your own decision when you go to vote for mayor on Tuesday.  But, make that decision based on the facts, not the distortion being hurled your way for political purposes.  Talk to your friends and family and ask them if they like living in Glen Cove and if there’s a better place on Long Island that’s so close to Manhattan AND affordable.
