Delia Thanks Voters for Re-Election
After Successful Campaign, Looking Forward to New Term and New District
On Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, Delia DeRiggi-Whitton - Nassau County Legislator was re-elected by a wide margin to represent 11th LD residents on the Nassau County Legislature.
Delia won by 1291 votes, receiving 8,218 votes to her main opponent's 6,927 votes. Even with a left-leaning third party taking 222 votes, Delia kept a solid lead. She was also the only incumbent candidate to win without the Independence Party endorsement.
Delia took pride in avoiding "low road" political tactics. Even as about $100,000 in misleading mailings hit mailboxes for weeks on end, seeking to spread false information against her, she stuck to speaking about her track record as a legislator who fights for her constituents and who stands up for good government policy, fiscal conservancy and transparency.
Delia said: "I want to thank all my supporters and the people who voted for me. It has been an honor to serve Nassau residents on the Legislature and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue my work. I won by a solid margin that shows two important things: first, people appreciate the work I have been doing as a Nassau County legislator; second, if you have a good track record, you can successfully run a clean campaign without stooping to false statements and negative attacks. As far as redistricting, I will miss the residents of the old 18th LD, but I hope they know I am still here to serve all of Nassau and will continue to fight on their behalf. In my new 11th LD, it has been a pleasure getting to know my new constituents and I look forward to working with Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, Glen Head, Roslyn Harbor, Roslyn, Sands Point and Port Washington."
