Letters Supporting Delia

Delia thanks all those who have extended support during her campaign for Re-Election to the Nassau County Legislature. Following are several letters by writers who have given permission to re-publish them:

On November 5th, Vote Delia DeRiggi-Whitton for Nassau County Legislator

It has been my pleasure to get to know Delia DeRiggi-Whitton over the past six months. Delia is presently the Nassau County Legislator for the 18th Legislative District (LD).  Due to re-districting, her new district will include part of her old one and part of our current County Legislator’s Wayne Wink’s 11th LD.  Port Washington is in the new 11th.  I have worked closely with her as she has made a major effort to quickly learn about our community, our friends and neighbors and our issues.

Delia carries herself with dignity and grace. She is polite and articulate. She sticks to the facts and is a strong advocate for her constituents needs. She is not afraid to stand-up for what she believes is the right course for the County despite heavy pressure from power brokers who to try to derail her.

Anyone who attended the October 16th League of Women Voters debate from our area got the opportunity to hear her major issues. Delia, a Finance Committee member on the Legislature, is a strict fiscal watchdog. She has been fighting excessive borrowing that will drive up our taxes.  She single-handedly spearheaded an inquiry into roughly $100 million in Sandy-related cleanup spending that she proved to be so questionable that multiple criminal investigations have been opened.

Beyond finances, Delia talked about environmental efforts she has made such as important initiatives both on water pollution and drinking water protection.

She is a mother of three and believes in a strong education. She is a civic leader and passionate fundraiser for organizations such as Diabetes Research Institute.

Anyone listening to Delia’s clear, informative and substantive statements at the debate left feeling what I already knew from getting to know her. She will carry on the great legacy of Wayne Wink, her Democratic colleague on the Legislature, as a fighter who will defend the best interests of Port Washington’s residential and business communities.

Delia’s re-election campaign has been consistent with her informative and constructive debate performance.  She focused on her achievements and qualifications.

I know locally Delia will take good care of the people of Port Washington.        I have seen her initiative and concern first hand and I expect great things from her next year as our new legislator.

We need to keep someone in government like Delia who will fight for us and represent our best interests in Mineola.

On November 5th, please vote Delia DeReggi-Whitton to be our next County Legislator.

Vote Delia – An Independent Thinker

“Those who won our independence believed that freedom to think as you will and to speak as you think are means indispensable to the discovery and spread of political truth.”

- Justice Louis D. Brandeis

Delia DeRiggi Whitton has been a great leader first as a councilwoman in the City of Glen Cove and now as our Nassau County Legislator. She has the courage to fight for what she believes is right, always thinking of our citizens and how to make their lives better.

In my eyes Delia has separated herself from the career politicians with her individuality not being controlled by any political party or person. Over the years she has never been afraid to fight for the right thing, regardless of the political environment. She seeks only the truth as was evident during Hurricane Sandy, her voice wouldn’t be silenced.

When she is not governing she is fighting everyday to find a cure for diabetes. It’s been my honor to help Delia in this difficult process. Because of her I have seen first hand the courage of children and adults who are faced with diabetes everyday of their lives. I have cherished meeting the many wonderful people dedicating their lives everyday to this wonderful cause.

Delia is a very special woman who I admire very much. Yes she is my friend and will always be. I urge everyone to come out and make their voices heard and vote for Delia as she is the one bright shining star that still remains high in the sky!

A Mom Voting for Delia DeRiggi-Whitton

I was touched last year when Delia honored me at the Nassau County Legislature. She said that as a mom raising a daughter with special health challenges, she wanted to spotlight the work my husband and I do to raise money for the Children’s Tumor Foundation. Delia has always supported our efforts and I appreciate it.

Beyond our own needs, I know from talking to people that Delia takes care of all her constituents. She truly cares about people and works to do the right thing by them.

One final thing I appreciate is how she always runs clean campaigns. She is a family person with good values that I appreciate. She “takes the high road” and sticks to her own issues. With so much ugliness this time of year, back-and-forth between candidates, Delia is a good  example for our children of how you can make your point, do your job, be tough, but be honest, polite and good-hearted too.

Thank You Delia DeRiggi-Whitton for Helping Our Kids

I want to thank Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton for seeing through a grant that has enabled the Gribbin School in Glen Cove to put in a beautiful new playground for the children.

As a former PTA President of Gribbin School, I helped spearhead the fundraising for this project. The playground was old and a hazard for children. The school district didn't have funds to replace the playground.

Many people stepped up to help this project. We worked with parents and community members to raise about half the cost, but we were still short. We needed additional help. Delia picked up a grant process that was started under Diane Yatauro to secure the significant amount of funds needed to complete the project. Delia fought and pushed in a difficult political climate to keep this project on the radar and worked hard to ensure that the funds came through for our children.

I am voting Delia on Tuesday, Nov. 5 because she will asks the tough questions, fights for what she believes is right and has a proven track record of success doing just that!
