I am just amazed that after 25 years in the field of special education things are just as complicated and stressful for parents. My "rule of thumb" is that when resources become scarce and agencies and/or schools are looking to make budgetary cuts, special education comes under fire. The commentary in the press with statements like: "Disabled children are getting too many unnecessary services" is difficult to challenge and far from the truth. It is difficult for parents to accept that their child needs special services. The press investigations and reports about special education costs "being too much" only serve to pit parents against one another.
