1. City Breaks Ground for Ferry Terminal 

, as city officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Glen Cove Ferry Terminal and Boat Basin. While there is currently no ferry operator, .

2. Son Charged with Killing Retired Glen Cove Police Officer

Glen Cove recently mourned the loss of retired police officer Sal Taranto, after he was fatally shot by his son in his central New York home on Dec. 1. , the victim's 28-year-old son who suffers from Aspergers Syndrome—a type of autism—has been charged with the murder. 

3. Retired Dispatcher Charged with Stealing from Fire Department

 from  between May 10, 2003 and March 6, 2009. The 68-year-old man of Henderson, N.C retired in 2009 after 34 years as a dispatcher and 44 years as a volunteer firefighter for the department.

4. City Denies Application for New Era Tire Plant

Planning Board chairman Thomas Scott announced that the city had denied New Era Tire's application to operate a tire retread factory on the waterfront at Garvies Point Road, during an Oct. 19 meeting.

Glen Cove resident Mayer Mehraban applied for a permit to operate New Era Tire, his retreading business, which would buff out the old treads on tires and put on new ones, at the Garvies Point Road location back in September, sparking over .

5. Laria Named as Interim Superintendent

 year back in May, ending weeks of speculation about who would replace Superintendent Dr. Laurence Aronstein. Aronstein, who has served as the district's schools chief since 2005, in March. His contract was slated to expire in 2012.  

6. Resident Arrested for Manslaughter after Fatal Crash

after Nassau County police said he drove while impaired and caused an accident that killed a 19-year-old Glen Head motorist Pietro Gaudesi. 

7. 13th Assembly District Race

Unless you were living under a rock in Glen Cove this year, , and lived through the excitement of the 13th Assembly District race. The race came to a head at . After a close race between two Glen Cove residents–incumbent  Charles Lavine and Iraq War veteran Rob Germino–Lavine was re-elected to the seat he's held since 2004.

8. Glen Cove District Director Resigns

Without providing an explanation as to why his decision was made,  during the Glen Cove Board of Education meeting back in March. Denise Kiernan was named as the new athletics director on July 27. 

9. Downtown Sounds and Morgan Park Concert Series

Glen Cove was treated to a summer of music every Friday and Sunday with the Downtown Sounds Summer Concert Series and the Morgan Park Summer Music Festival. Patch featured the performances each week. Concert goers were treated to several celeb surprise appearances,  when he came on stage to perform with Richie Cannata and bandmate Eren Cannata. .

10. Police Bust Upscale Drug Ring

A Locust Valley man and several others were put behind bars back in April after Glen Cove police say they . News of the drug bust came after city and Nassau County police and the county's District Attorney's Office announced on Tuesday that they teamed up for a joint narcotics investigation. 

More recently,  led to the arrest of 35-year-old Brookville man Francisco Baruelos on Dec. 10 for the criminal sale of cocaine.
