Bites Nearby: Forest Pizzeria & Restaurant

Forest Pizzeria is a triple threat with its great service, beautiful atmosphere and terrific food.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Glen Cove Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

Great service, beautiful atmosphere, terrific food: these are the ingredients for a memorable experience. After recently revisiting this local gem, it became quite clear as to why Forest Pizzeria remains a triple threat and a long-time Glen Cove staple.

Formerly part of the shopping plaza (before it even became King Kullen), Forest is now located in a new facility across the street, adjacent to Dairy Barn. It could, quite possibly, be one of the cleanest and most elegant-looking pizzerias ever seen. High ceilings, gorgeous paintings, sconces and warm, neutral wall colors combine to make a pleasant dine-in experience.

One look at their version of pizza could induce salivation. The large, plain, cheese slice that was served had a thin crust and a nice amount of cheese.

Their mushroom panini came with red peppers and mozzarella, which was simply outstanding. Although not a huge fan of mushrooms, the sandwich (which had crispy bread and a delectable, gooey inside) was more than worth trying.

On Tuesdays, they offer a pasta special for $8.75 (which comes with a tossed salad and bread) in which customers can choose from over 10 different kinds of pasta dishes.

Forest Pizzeria is now serving gluten-free pizza. Delivery and catering is also available. There's plentiful parking in a free lot. Visit their Web site for a full list of menu items and directions.

90 Forest Ave. 516-759-3777. Open Monday-Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Prices: $10 to $20 for entrees.
