Bites Nearby: Glen Cove Diner and Cafe

The Glen Cove Diner serves breakfast all day and is open until 3 a.m. on weekends.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Glen Cove Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

Glen Cove Diner and Cafe

In need of pancakes at midnight? Look no further. Glen Cove now has its very own diner, open until 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Taking the place of , the diner - which opened May 2 - is family owned and operated and offers up an assortment of Greek, Italian and American dishes.

The interior is bright, beautiful and modern. There are also televisions placed strategically throughout the restaurant so just about every customer can watch from his or her seat.

The service is extremely prompt; the food, better than expected. Love breakfast? Try their whole wheat pancakes. Although the word “whole wheat” alone may sound devoid of all flavor, the pancakes were very delicious (not to mention, a much healthier choice). Their french toast is also recommended; it has a crunchy outside, with a soft and gooey inside.

While ordering the Sauteed Greek Souvlaki Platter, the waiter suggested trying the pork “deep fried,” which is a Greek tradition. Ask to have the pork prepared this way; it was a total taste thrill.

The diner’s atmosphere is perfect for kids, so bring the family. With such a wide selection of all-day breakfast, lunch and dinner options, they’re sure to find something to enjoy.

Take-out, delivery and catering is available.

The Glen Cove Diner also on Facebook and Twitter. Follow them or visit their Web site for updates, menu items and directions.

187 Glen St. 516-676-1400. Open Monday-Thursday 6 a.m. to 1 a.m., Friday-Saturday 6 a.m. to 3 a.m. and Sunday 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. Prices: $10 to $20 for entrees.
