Bites Nearby: Tuscani Brick Oven Pizza

New restaurant in Glen Cove proves their pizza is a contender.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Glen Cove Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

Tuscani Brick Oven Pizza & Restaurant

Although Glen Cove is flilled with some of the most fantastic pizzerias on Long Island, it is always exciting to try a new place. Enter: Tuscani. Wedged between and the on Forest Avenue, this Italian eatery serves up a pretty decent slice for a fledgling establishment.

Don’t let the narrow facade fool you; the interior of the restaurant is very beautiful, clean and spacious, complete with fresh new tables and woven chairs. The service was very prompt and had the food ready in approximately 20 minutes.

The greatest aspect of their plain cheese slice is that it’s different from other area pizzerias. It has a fluffy - not chewy - crust. It also has the perfect proportions of cheese and sauce, with no greasy oil drips! Kids ravenous after a full day of swimming? Pick up a couple of cheese pies for them. They're sure to enjoy it.

They also have a very wide selection of dietary pizzas, pizzette (personal pizza), heros, salads, pastas and reduced-fat entrees. There is also a children’s menu.

Currently, Tuscani is featuring a few specials that are worth checking out (and easy on the wallet): $5 chicken parmigiana heros; $4 for two regular slices and one 16oz drink; and buy one entree, get one 50 percent off (dine-in only).

Delivery services are available. “Like” them on Facebook for more specials, photos and updates.

91 Forest Ave. 516-671-2444. Open Sunday-Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Prices: $10 to $20 for entrees, $13 for 18” cheese pie ($8.49 with coupon, pick-up only).
