Crimes Nearby: Poor Box Stolen

Patch reports on crimes from nearby communities.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Nassau and Suffolk County Police Departments. It does not indicate a conviction.

Garden City

An arrest has been made in the poor box larceny that occurred at the  in November 2011, Garden City police said Tuesday.

An ongoing investigation, which included the release of surveillance video taken inside the church to the media, the circulation of flyers and presentations at intelligence meetings covering Nassau, Suffolk and New York City, led to the arrest of Jason Swider, 28, of Levittown, according to police commissioner Ernest Cipullo.

The larceny was committed by two male subjects during the morning hours of Nov. 11, 2011. They took off with approximately $150 cash.

Massapequa

An Amityville woman called in bogus prescriptions to two Massapequa pharmacies and one in Seaford, police said.

Diane Bonser, 43, is also accused of pretending to be a doctor.

Bonser was arrested Thursday after allegedly making five calls to pharmacies requesting prescriptions. On Oct. 18 police said she called  on Sunrise Highway claiming to be a doctor. She allegedly requested prescriptions for two types of painkillers.

Ten days later, called the pharmacy at the Sunrise Mall Walmart and called in two more painkiller prescriptions while pretending to be a representative of a doctor's office, according to cops.

Long Beach

Ernest Hamilton, 60, of Long Beach was arrested and charged with false personation and criminal possession of marijuana at Long Beach Plaza on East Park Avenue on March 20.

Bay Shore

A West Islip man was arrested last week after impersonating a federal agent while attempting to pull over a vehicle in Bay Shore last month, police said.

Shaun Coppola, 24, reportedly activated a strobe light as he attempted to pull over a motorist on Fifth and Brook Avenues on Feb. 29. According to police, Coppola pulled alongside the victim's car at a traffic light, saying he was a federal agent.

West Hempstead

Three men, including one from Farmingdale, were arrested after an incident involving fireworks in Elmont eventually ended in a Monday morning car crash in West Hempstead.

A Lindenhurst man was arrested after he allegedly became combative towards police officers responding to disperse a large crowd at  in West Hempstead early Saturday morning, police said.

According to Nassau Police, Emanuel Rodriguez, 25, refused to leave and started yelling, cursing and became combative towards the officers.

As Rodriguez was being placed under arrest, a struggle ensued in an attempt to prevent him from being arrested, police said.

During the struggle two officers and a sergeant were injured and required treatment at a local hospital.

Lindenhurst

Two women were arrested for prostitution at a Lindenhurst massage parlor on Saturday afternoon, according to police.

The Suffolk County Police First Precinct Crime Section conducted an undercover investigation into illegal activities at the Sunflower Spa, located at 145 Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst, and officers arrested Ping Xie and Hui Zhao at 3:30 p.m.

According to police, Zhao, 40, and Xie, 42 - both from Flushing, Queens - were charged with prostitution, as well as unauthorized practice of a profession, a class E felony.
