First Baby Born at Katz

The first baby to be born in the new deluxe entered the world at  10:24 a.m. on Jan. 25  to parents Rosa Kitchikova and Ilya.

Rosa and Ilya, of Flushing, Queens, welcomed their fifth child, Avital who will join the family of two brothers and two sisters. Her mother calls Avital the “tie-breaker” of the family.

The hospital system said Katz Women’s Hospital -- named in honor of  long-time trustee and former chairman, Saul Katz, and associate trustee Iris Katz -- was constructed at a cost of $300 million and includes 162 private rooms.

SUV Overturns on Lawn in Mineola

A 19-year-old woman overturned her vehicle onto the front lawn of a Mineola home Wednesday afternoon, closing Herricks Road for almost an hour, according to .

The accident occurred at 426 Herricks Road, near the triangular intersection of Herricks and White Road at about 4:58 p.m., with the SUV turned over on its passenger side on the front lawn of the property.

Film Based on Port Washington Resident Nominated for Oscar

“In Darkness,” a Polish film based on the life of Port Washington resident Kristina (Chiger) Keren, was nominated for Best Foreign Film on Tuesday.

Directed by Agnieszka Holland ("Europa Europa"), the film depicts the true story of Jews in 1943 living in Lvov, Poland, who escaped the Nazis by seeking refuge in sewers.

Keren, her family and 17 others spent 14 months in hiding, surviving on the food and supplies brought to them by Leopold Socha, a sewer inspector. Keren, 76, is the lone surviver of the group, according to a New York Times article. Her husband, Marian, is also a Holocaust survivor.

2 Women Sought in 'Deception' Burglaries

have issued composite sketches of two unknown women wanted in connection with a series of deception burglaries that are preying on elderly homeowners throughout the county.

The pair, which are believed to be working as a team, are wanted in connection with a series of residential that began in December and have continued through January. Police say several incidents have been reported in Nassau County involving the two women.

The show “What Would You Do?” uses hidden cameras to capture how people react when they're thrust in real-life ethical scenarios that call out for action. The show filmed at the Farmingdale dining establishment back on Oct. 19.
