Historic October Snowfall in Glen Cove

Bitter, icy-cold and blustery are terms generally used to describe the weather in December and January.

"That STINKS!!!" said Glen Cove resident Donna Ritchie Valeo via Facebook on Friday, responding to a post announcing possible snow in the area.

An announcement is currently posted on their Web site regarding the harsh weather conditions:

October 29, 2011: 2:00PM - LIPA continues to monitor the potential for severe weather throughout today. We are prepared, and have additional field crews and customer service resources to respond to any power outages that may occur. We will restore any power outages as quickly and safely as possible. If you encounter any downed wire, you should assume it is a live electric wire and report it immediately to LIPA at 1-800-490-0075 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week). To report an outage or receive power restoration updates, visit our Storm Center. When reporting an outage, we encourage you to use the option of providing a phone number so that we can call you back when service restoration updates become available.

Glen Cove will see a mix of rain and snow throughout the day, according to The Weather Channel, with temperatures steady near 39.

Just snow is forecast for late Saturday, with 2 to 4 inches of accumulation expected. Winds could gust over 40 miles per hour.

Take precaution while driving, and dress appropriately if attending any Halloween parties (witches wear rain boots, right?)
