Local Woman Runs Solo 50 Mile Marathon

Glen Cove marathoner will run to raise awareness and funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Glen Cove resident and kidney donor, Eva Casale will run the Ocean to Sound Relay, an annual fundraiser, on Sunday, September 19.

This year, there will be only one runner.

Casale is challenging herself by taking on the 50 mile race on her own. She also challenges Long Island to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and provide a contribution to the organization.

Casale, who is a Vice President of Technology at the Oceanside Christopher, the Catholic Credit Union, has run a number of marathons and ultra-marathons since she donated a kidney to a stranger in 2006.

"Before 2006, I would run one or two marathons a year and many shorter races. Since October 2006, I've run 24 marathons, including 9 ultras, and many other races," Casale said. "I think the gift of helping others is like food for the soul. It nourishes us to be better people, to strive harder and go further, and for us runners, to push ourselves to limits we never thought possible."
