POLL: What is Your Dog’s Name?

Post a photo of your adorable canine.

What’s in a name?

Perhaps a lot of careful thought went into naming your furry friend. Maybe you went as far as to cleverly name your Dachshund “Heinz.” Or, it's possible a more popular name felt suitable.

The top five dog names of 2011 were Bella, Bailey, Max, Lucy and Molly, according to Veterinary Pet Insurance Co. and Petfinder.com. Rounding out the top 10 were Buddy, Daisy, Maggie, Charlie and Sophie.

We want to know: What is your dog's name? How did you choose that particular name? Take our poll. If it is not on there, add it in the comments.

And while you are here, be sure to upload a photo of your dog!

If you are not a dog owner, don't feel left out. If you happen to be in the market for a new dog this year, try adopting from the .

I wish I had a dog! If I did, I would name him Baxter solely on the fact my favorite movie is "Anchorman." What is your dog's name?

Zaniah was named for a star in the constellation Libra. Dakota was named as I got him after a trip to South Dakota. I have always liked names that are out of the ordinary and are chosen based on the personality & connection to my particular dog.

Other: Sockie (or Saki - not sure of the spelling - I should read it off of his name tag). He is my five-year-old Niece's Shih-poo (Shitzu Poodle mix) that she named when she was three. She seemed hung up on the "Sock" sound as she had seen a shelter cat a few months earlier and named the cat "Socko". Funny thing is this dog steals socks and hides them though that started after he was named.

I am kindly amused how personalized we name our four paws companions. Not to be outdone, our oldest is Ciao. When we got him we still had Bella (Ciao Bella!). We have always kept two small dogs of an handful of years difference getting a new puppy in the last couple of years of the oldest. When Bella was on her last leg (pardon the pun) my wife found her perfect lapdog so naturally she called it Parfait.

This is a very special girl named "Pepper" I'm fostering. She's a purebred Staffordshire Bull Terrier, she's about five years old and needs a loving forever home. Her temperament is exceptional, although she probably needs to be in a one dog home. If anyone is interested in meeting her, contact me at Staffbull@mac.com. She's in the rescue system of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of America, so any applicant needs to be approved by them. I've had her for about two months, and I'm in love with her. I already have too many dogs, or I'd keep her myself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-F3VvK5YFY

Wilie was rescued from a Missouri gas kill shelter. Sadie had spent most of her life in a puppy mill. Great pure bred Cavalier King Charles Spaniels that are the best dogs ever!

My 4 year old rescue's name is Rockstar. After putting names in a hat at a family gathering, nothing seemed fitting for the amounts of attention he was getting and the way he responded to it, as if he deserved every bit of it LOL Of course he's called Rocky for short, but our only child answers to all kinds of stuff we torture him with like BooBoo, Bubba, TootsieRoll, BabyBoy and the one & only ROCKSTAR! I swear, he's human!!!
