Question of the Day: Fighting Mosquitoes

What steps do you take to prevent the pesky insects from breeding on your property?

With West Nile Virus-carrying mosquitoes around Nassau County as of Monday, the county's Department of Health is issuing tips on how to reduce the mosquito population around your home and property.

The blood-suckers hatch in standing water, so the smallest pools make for potential breeding grounds.

Recommended steps to combat the breeding include getting rid of old tires, turning over wading pools and wheelbarrows when not in use and drilling holes in recycling containers.
