Glen Cove Residents stock up on bottled water, flashlights and other basic necessities to get through the anticipated hurricane.

As charges north along the eastern coast, Glen Cove residents stock up on the basic necessities to get them through the anticipated storm.

Amidst long lines - and strong concerns - local stores struggle to keep up with the demand for items such as bottled water, batteries and generators.

Not a single flashlight could be found at the Shopping Center after an influx of residents flocked to the stores Friday.

"Our owners are trying very hard," said George Johnson, manager at . "They're actually going to the upstate warehouse to try to pick up of emergency storm goods, so hopefully we can meet the demand."

One resident was stunned by the amount of attention news sources were giving to the anticipated storm.

"I'm surprised that it's turning into a bigger deal than everybody thought it'd be," said Megan O'Donnell, a Glen Cove resident. "So I feel like we're preparing for the worst and hoping for the best."
