Shelter Animal of the Week: Garfield

This adorable little guy is named after the beloved cartoon not only for his coloring, but also his personality.

It is almost too obvious as to how Garfield got his name. Although he may not be rotund like the cartoon cat, his vibrant, orange color is unmistakably similar.

Garfield was originally part of a safe haven project. The family who cared for him was homeless, therefore he was not housed. They were a military family, and the only way Garfield could be housed is if the owner was deployed. They chose not to deploy him, which left our furry friend still homeless.

"Finally, it came to the point where they weren't going to take them [Garfield and two other cats] back, so we asked if we could adopt them out," said Diane at the . "They said yes."

Garfield qualifies as one of easiest adoptions, according to shelter staff. He is a wonderful cat who is smart, playful and especially funny. His "cheekiness" was what solidified the name "Garfield."

He is a two year-old Domestic Short Hair with beautiful orange and white coloring, of course, and a precious face. One of his favorite things to do at the shelter is scratch his little paws on a blue, circular scratching plate/toy.

The Glen Cove Animal Shelter has had him for about a year, and hope someone will come along soon and take him home.
