Glen Cove Pays Tribute to Veterans

Mayor Ralph Suozzi and the City of Glen Cove hosted the annual Veterans Day ceremony Friday to honor our local military heroes.

It was a cool, sunny day for the commemoration, which was held in front of the Doughboy Monument next to the .

The ceremony began with an introduction of this year’s honoree, , and the dedication of the red, white and blue wreath.

Mayor Suozzi voiced heartfelt remarks on Glen Cove’s veterans. He thanked them for their service and sacrifice, allowing Americans to embrace freedom and security.

A moment of silence was requested to pay tribute to the nation’s war heroes. The environment felt serious, but peaceful, eliciting smiles from the proud, local veterans in attendance.

“I know many of you can join me in saying, I love this guy,” said Mayor Suozzi during his introduction of Farnan.

Suozzi followed with a brief recount of the , mentioning how bravely he took control, and lead his men to safety. He then presented Farnan with a United States flag and medallion for his service.

While at the podium, the honoree spoke about his past experiences and reflected on them. He shared memories and words to live by with residents, local families and fellow veterans.

"I shall never forget the veterans I have followed during World War II," he stated.

Farnan additionally vocalized his fondness of the Glen Cove community, as well as the places and monuments he cherishes the most, like the , , and .

“I would hope that all of us keep in mind the memories of our veterans," he said.

The annual firing of the rifles and cannon completed the Veteran’s Day ceremony, leaving residents to reflect and remember the venerable individuals, past and present, who have served our country.
