Spinello Appears to Beat Suozzi in Glen Cove Mayoral Election

Close race leads Republican challenger to apparent victory; absentee ballots still need to be counted.

Republican challenger Reginald Spinello appears to have defeated four-term incumbent Democrat Ralph Suozzi in Glen Cove's race for mayor, according to unofficial results from the Nassau County Board of Elections.

With all districts reporting, Spinello received
3,269 votes while Suozzi obtained 3,154. Roughly 400 absentee ballots were requested and are still out. Suozzi has not conceded as of midnight.

Spinello currently serves on the Glen Cove City Council. Celebrating his apparent victory at Glen Cove Republican headquarters Tuesday night, Spinello said his top priorities are to bring businesses into Glen Cove, revitalize the downtown, stabilize taxes and grow the revenue base.

"The people did want change and it doesn't come easy in Glen Cove," Spinello said. "Ralph is about the community and the people still respect him, as do I, but the people want change and I think the change will now begin."

The Glen Cove City Council election results are as follows:

Anthony Gallo, Jr (R, Incumbent)  3,649
Pamela D. Panzenbeck (R) 3,020
Timothy J. Tenke (D, Incumbent) 3,057
Efraim Spagnoletti  (R) 2,984
Michael T. Famiglietti (D, Incumbent) 3,004
Nicholas A. Dileo (D, Incumbent) 2,883
