Community Corner
Address Alarming Issue of Bullying through Theatre as a Social Voice
Students in Ruth Pincus’
Advanced Acting Ensemble Class banded together to write and perform the
“Anti-Bully Project.” The vignettes captured the attention of the Council for
Prejudice Reduction, Tilles Center, RFK Foundation, among others, and led to
the launch of the First Annual “Stage the Change, Theatre as a Social Voice”
Conference. The conference is open to high school and college theatre students,
educators, guidance counselors, social awareness clubs, youth groups, parents
and community members. The full-day event will offer an opportunity to engage
young people and others to inspire them to become voices of change – addressing
the spectrum of social and emotional literacy issues, including bullying,
tolerance, celebration of diversity, peace, test anxiety, and beyond. The
Conference is Common Core and APPR compliant and aligns with the Dignity for
All Students Act (DASA).
