Collecting Shakespeare: The Story of Henry & Emily Folger

In Collecting Shakespeare, Stephen H. Grant recounts the American success story of Henry and Emily Folger of Brooklyn, a couple who were devoted to each other, in love with Shakespeare, and bitten by the collecting bug.

Henry Folger worked five decades for the Standard Oil Company, at the height of his career serving as president, then chairman of the board, Standard Oil of New York. The Folgers lived for a time on the Gold Coast in Glen Cove, and were close friends with the children of Charles Pratt.

This book is the first biography written about the couple who founded the Folger
Shakespeare Library in Washington DC in 1932.

Light refreshments will follow the presentation.
