The Glen Cove School District’s athletics department, booster club and varsity coaches once again came together to recognize distinguished members of the Glen Cove High School varsity squads during this year’s Fall Athletics Awards Ceremony. The evening was highlighted by the presentation of the coveted Superintendent’s Award, which recognizes one student-athlete every athletic season who demonstrates the highest level of scholarship, leadership and sportsmanship. This fall’s winner was senior varsity boys soccer player Angad Sodhi.
Additional nominees for the Superintendent’s Award were Michael Burrell (football), Samantha Dipaola (girls soccer), Gillian Farnan, (cross-country), Jackelyn Hayduk (volleyball) and Claudia Kolanovic (girls tennis).
Other awards presented included the Booster Club Award, which honors an athlete from each team whom the coaches feel possesses school spirit, is conscientious and is dedicated; and the Most Valuable Player Award, presented to the player in each sport voted by his or her teammates and coaches as being the most valuable performer to the team. Letters, pins and plaques were also awarded to students in recognition of their participation in a particular sport.

The girls varsity soccer team was recognized with the New York State Scholar-Athlete Team award for achieving a cumulative academic average of 90 or better. Also recognized was the football team, which advanced to the semifinals of the Nassau Football championships at Hofstra.
