Precious Memories

Morgan Park: It's beauty, memories and history.

I was born and raised right here in the City of Glen Cove. A wonderful place to grow up and live. A wonderful place where the beauty and history is second to none.

On July 18, 2012, a big part of my home town changed forever. It came just as that storm did. Like a thunderbolt of lightning through my heart, I couldn't believe what I saw before my eyes. Such devastation to one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Mother nature and her wrath took her toll on a beloved landmark at Morgan Park. The historic gazebo was leveled, and with my eyes set on that sight, so many memories came flooding back to me. The swimming lessons, award ceremonies, the concerts -there were just so many childhood memories of that precious spot in the park.

The most precious of all memories was my wedding day, with photos being taken of me and my husband standing on that lovely, one-of-a-kind historical structure.

The sight of it now pained me so deeply, for I lost my husband on 9/11 and as I stood there, looking at the remains of that beautiful gazebo, all I could think about was that I keep losing people, places, and things that were so precious to me.

Afterwards, I read the Mayor's statement on the issue at hand and one thing I know for sure: Mayor Ralph Suozzi is a phenominal Mayor. When he stated that Morgan Park and it's beautiful gazebo landmark will rise again to its original historic beauty, you better believe it will.
