Hospital Appoints Chief Nursing Officer

Former patient care services director heads nursing operations at Glen Cove Hospital.

Glen Cove Hospital recently named Cathy Sheerin its new chief nursing officer and associate executive director, according to the hospital.

Sheerin had been director of patient care services. She joined the hospital in 2006 as the nurse manager for psychiatry. She has more than 30 years' experience in nursing, and has held management positions in urgent care, substance abuse services and medical management services.

At her new post, she is responsible for overseeing a staff of 679 employees, including 375 registered nurses. She is head of operations in the nursing department as well as the pharmacy, laboratory and respiratory departments, and physical, occupational, recreational and speech therapies.

Sheerin earned her master's degree in nursing at Adelphi University Graduate School of Nursing and her bachelor's degree in nursing from Molloy College.  In 2008, she received board-certification as a nurse executive by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
