North Shore Lacrosse Week 3

It finally felt like lacrosse weather this past Sunday for North Shore’s PAL lacrosse teams.

Mike Gilliam’s 4th grade Lady Vikings traveled to Manhasset this week.  Playing a strong lacrosse community like Manhasset is always a daunting task but one which the Lady Vikings were clearly ready for.  North Shore won the game 6-2 with goals coming from 5 different players: Kate Gilliam (2), Ava Vaccaro, Christina Dade, Evelyn McCreery, and Nora Schatz.  North Shore controlled the middle of the field with great two-way play at the midfield by Kate Gilliam, Evelyn McCreery, Fiona Reagan, Ava Vacarro, Christiana Dade, and Rebekah Lando who was a force on the field recording a beautiful assist and picking up several loose balls.  Possession is everything in lacrosse and Fiona Reagan was virtually unbeatable in the draw circle.  Nora Schatz anchored the attack on the offensive end of the field with Ella Begley and Sara GarryGrace Spotto and Madison Patino helped anchor the defense by forcing multiple turnovers and picking up every ground ball that came their way.  Ali Ryder and Charlotte Semlies both played incredibly well in goal with 6 saves each.  The team was able to hold Manhasset to only 2 goals --  a very strong performance by the Lady Vikings!

On the boys side... John Russo’s 4th grade team played in another thriller this week, having just come off an exciting win over Rockville Centre last week by the score of 12-11.  This week it was the Mineola Chiefs who visited the turf at North Shore to play a back and forth battle which ended in a 4-4 draw.          Luke Moran and Will Feldmann started the game off for North Shore giving North Shore a 2 -0 lead.  The Chiefs rallied back and scored 3 unanswered goals before Mark Russo scored late in the 3rd quarter to tie the game 3-3.  The chiefs scored their 4th goal in the fourth quarter which was answered by Will Feldmann’s 2nd goal of the game to end the game in a 4-4 tie.  Speedy first year player Jonathan Caravello picked up several important ground balls to help the Vikings. On defense Phillip Von Mueffling played very well and caused some important turnovers.  Aaron D’Aversa and Luke Moran had 5 saves each in the closely contested game.  It takes guts to stand in the goal and each of these players has it in spades.
Overall, this great group of 4th grade boys showed a strong effort.
