Glen Cove Mourns Death of Police Lieutenant

Lt. Rod Bruschini died suddenly on Jan. 10, funeral services to be held at St. Paul's Episcopal.

Flags were lowered around the City of Glen Cove this weekend following the sudden death of Glen Cove Police Lieutenant Rod Bruschini, who succumbed to an illness Friday at the age of 56.

Bruschini was a lifelong Glen Cover and member of the police force for over 30 years. He will be remembered fondly by family and friends as well as those he served in the community.

"He simply loved others more than himself. That is how he was, that is how he is to be remembered, and that is how I will strive to live," his son Michael wrote in a note on Facebook. "As one friend wrote, "everybody liked him because it was impossible not to like him."

"My heart goes out to Rod's family," said Police Chief William Whitton. "I knew Rod to be a good-hearted man, a devoted husband and a wonderful father. I had the honor and privilege of working with Rod for over 29 years. I was always impressed by the way he went about his job and conducted himself, both in and outside the police department. He left us too soon. There are many who love him and many who will miss him. As the police department moves forward without him, we will never forget what a kind and gentle man he was."

Bruschini is survived by his wife, Diane, children Michael, Krista and Julianne, sisters Maryanne (Rob) Grabowski and Carol (Hugh) Kenary, and mother-in-law Mary Campanola, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home, 220 Glen Street, Glen Cove. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 28 Highland Rd., Glen Cove at 11 am. Bruschini will be buried in St. Paul's Cemetery.
