Winter Golfing at Cantiagua Park

Why Go? It's the perfect buddies trip for the golf enthusiast. You can even bring the kids along, since there's an 18-hole miniature golf course that they can enjoy.
Insider Tip: Call before coming. Although the course is open year round, it may close at some points due to weather conditions.
Must Do: Once you've done a day of golfing and are ready to mix things up, be sure to take advantage of all the other amenities the park has to offer, like ice skating or indoor swimming.
The Fine Print: The golf course is open daily from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There is a winter fee of $24 per person on weekdays and a weekend fee of $26.
Garvies Point Museum & Preserve

Why Go? Learn about all things geology and archaeology in Long Island with a trip to the Garvies Point Museum and Preserve. Bring your kids along for this educational experience to explore the habitat of exciting animals like leopard moths and caterpillars.
Insider Tip: Leave your pets at home as the museum does not allow them on the premises.
Must Do: Visit the gift shop on your way out for books and materials based on the exhibits and their relevance to Long Island history. "There's no other place in the world like Garvies Point," frequent visitor Regina Parry said. "It is truly a place of wonder, inquiry and fun!"
The Fine Print: Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children ages 5 to 12. Parking is free.
Cross Country Skiing in Bethpage State Park

Why Go? Grab your kids and skis for an invigorating day trip of cross country skiing in Bethpage State Park. Whether you're new to the sport or a veteran, there are hills of different sizes for everyone to enjoy.
Insider Tip: Bring your ski equipment—the park does not rent gear. Before you head on over, be sure to contact the park to make sure cross-country skiing is available that day, because hours vary based on weather conditions.
Must Do: Go sleigh riding in the park.
The Fine Print: Cross-country skiing is available with snow fall until March 31. The use of skiing trails are free.

Why Go? A theme park perfect for families and especially kids, it makes for an exciting way to create memories for years to come.
Insider Tip: Kids will love the finger foods at Beaches and Cream Soda Shoppe. If you're hoping to indulge in finer dining, try the Shipwreck Tavern or Tiki Bar Cafe.
Must Do: Everyone will love Captain Bay's Yo-Ho Holiday Light Show, a luminous extravaganza that shares the story of the pirate's first Christmas.
The Fine Print: The park is open Fridays 6 p.m.-10 p.m., Saturdays 12 p.m.-10 p.m. and Sundays 12 p.m.-9 p.m. Check the website for openings on select weeknights. An all inclusive admission fee of $20 per person covers all five fun-filled attractions.
