Question of the Day: What Are Your Thoughts on Weinergate?

How do you feel about Rep. Weiner admitting that he had inappropriate online relations and tweeted controversial pictures?

Today's Question of the Day: How do you feel about Rep. Weiner admitting that he had inappropriate online relations and tweeted controversial pictures? Do you think he should resign? Do you think an ethics investigation is necessary? Tell us in comments.

U.S. Rep. Steve Israel, D- Huntington, supports an ethics investigation of Rep. Anthony Weiner, after Weiner confessed to sending sexually suggestive photos to women through social media.

Israel, who is chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said Weiner engaged in "a deep personal failure and embarrassed himself, his family and the House," but did not explicitly say Weiner should resign.

For Wednesday's "Question of the Day," we're asking you your opinion on Weiner's actions.

He's only sorry because he got caught, if he hadn't gotten caught he'd still be tweeting porn stars and blackjack dealers. He'll probably be tweeting by the end of the month anyway. He's not worthy of our trust, he should resign.
John Cocchiola June 8, 2011 at 02:14 pm
He obviously has terrible judgement, and he's contributing to decisions that affect all of us.

If he refuses to resign, they will wipe out his seat via redistricting.
I want him to stay. Let the Republicans make something out of this like the Democrats made out of Mark Foley. The Foley scandal broke in Sept of 06, just 2 months before the mid term elections,. Foley became the focus of the Democrat campaign. Nancy Pelosi then Minority Leader was going to "clean the swamp", remember? Republicans lost seats, leading to Pelosi becoming Majority Leader and Speaker of the House

Scum, belongs on the bottom of the barrel. I agree with John Cocchiola. "He is only sorry because he got caught" Our Government is corrupt with Liars, Cheats, and perverts. This makes me sick.

The behavior is creepy and juvenile, but is it illegal?
John Cocchiola June 8, 2011 at 05:51 pm
I don't think anyone suggested it was "illegal." I just don't think he's fit to serve in Congress.
Liz June 8, 2011 at 06:28 pm
I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe if he used Government computers, was working on this from his office, in other words, it is illegal.

Well said John, he wsan't sorry at all until he got caught. It's a good indication of his character and how he deals with being under pressure, he lies about it.

America is obsessed with puritanical sexual behavior. Who cares. We drive that embarrassing behavior response. Who cares about his sexual behavior or needs. Why is lying about a blow job more important to us than lying to start a war. Yes I would rather he handled it more honestly but we are all collectively responsible for Wiener's stupid cover up. Let's all get past this because we need Wiener's expertise and strength in dealing with issues of poverty and inequality. He should stay on and do what he does best and hopefully get his love life in order. He obviously is sad and lonely and not getting what he needs. This job must have something to do with it. A lot of politicians seem to have a similar problem or is it male behavior in America in general! How are we raising men?
John Cocchiola June 9, 2011 at 04:17 pm
What about the question of blackmail Eric? Don't you think these people that get involved in sex scandals can be blackmailed, for political favors? Foreign governments, girlfriends that need jobs, organized crime? If he was my next door neighbor, I wouldn't give a damn, but he takes part in decision making that each of us has to live with. He needs to use judgement to make those decisions, and he seems to have the bad judgement of a thirteen year old boy with issues. By the way, I don't think he comes off as particularly strong, he looks pretty weak to me. He looks like a weak boy with a big mouth.

John,
The question of whether or not this was illegal has come up on all the cable shows. And the answer seems to be from all of them it is NOT, unless, he used Government Computers, from his House office, to send this pics, tweets, etc.
John Cocchiola June 9, 2011 at 04:31 pm
I don't think "illegal" is relevant. No one is suggesting he go to prison. He's unfit for his job, in my opinion. The question of legality has nothing to do with it. If the CEO of a Corporation got caught doing the same exact thing, the BoD and stockholders (and women's groups, and the general public) would insist he resign; having a sexual predator as a CEO is usually not a great idea (Weiner admitted that he really had no idea of how old those women were). I don't think he should be charged with a crime. Leaving a job is different. We should hold our elected officials at least to the standards of people in the Private Sector. If Weiner worked for me, he wouldn't after this.
