Reginald Spinello, Mayor of the "Gem of the Gold Coast", Glen Cove

It was a beautiful day in Glen Cove.  January 1, 2014, the sun was shining, the Wunsch Arts Center auditorium at the Finley Middle School was filled to capacity with enthusiastic residents, and the future of Glen Cove was outlined in a profoundly spirited and exquisitely presented Inaugural Address delivered by new Mayor Reginald Spinello.  A consistent theme throughout the address was, "Glen Cove is once again open for business."  Mayor Spinello noted his additional promises of restoring the quality of life to the residents of Glen Cove, in reversing the trends of the previous administrations, and in " providing an open, honest, transparent and hardworking government."  Mayor Spinello stated, "I promised during the campaign that I would focus on quality of life issues, and I intend to keep that promise."

The pomp and circumstance, the exquisite flag processional with members of the Glen Cove Police Department, Volunteer Fire Department, Harbor Patrol, Emergency Medical Services, Auxiliary Police, United States Coast Guard, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars was awe inspiring.  After a welcoming address by Paul Meli, Master of Ceremonies and Chairman of the Glen Cove Republican Committee, the Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem, and Invocation, the Honorable Edward Mangano, Nassau County Executive, presented an inspiring and very positively focused speech.  The Oath of Office was administered by the Honorable Judge Richard McCord and Glen Cove had a new Mayor.

Mayor Reginald Spinello, with a beaming smile stated, "It's been a long time in coming and I'm pleased to announce today that Glen Cove is once again open for business.  We've got a lot of work to do to reverse the trends of the last 20 years, but if I didn't think we could do it, I wouldn't have run for mayor.  My vision for our city's future is very positive."....."After more then two decades of one-party rule and one-party ideas, the voters have asked for a change in the way Glen Cove is governed.  And I intend to lead that change."  As one of his first orders of business, Spinello said he is going to direct his attention to the illegal housing problem which he stated has been a burden on our community and on our honest, law-abiding citizens stating, "So long as I am mayor, the illegal housing business will no longer be business as usual in Glen Cove.  If we're going to respect each other, we need to start with a mutual respect for our laws."

Spinello sited the negative trend in our business environment over the years and he intends to encourage all of us to support our local businesses and to revive our business community.

With numerous applause and standing ovations throughout his speech, Mayor Spinello reiterated, "Glen Cove is officially reopened for business."  The positive vibe, the enthusiastic crowd of well-wishers, the thrill of a new era for Glen Cove - it all leads one to believe that we can once again become the "Gem of the Gold Coast."
