What Happened To Our Town?

My comments today are just my personal opinion and feeling of frustration.  I do not have an agenda, no party affiliation and I will vote for whoever can clearly and credibly state how they will help our town.  With that said, Is it accurate that the Mayor, does not own a home in town? Maybe he and any Mayor who does not own their home in Glen Cove, should donate or reimburse the city, an equal percentage of their salary that we home owners pay in taxes. This may help the Chief Administrator understand how the many homeowners here are frustrated with paying extra and seeing their community in decline.  In addition, I feel that every resident in town with children in our schools, share the burden of taxes not just the homeowners.  Like many others, I left Brooklyn and moved to Glen Cove to 15 years ago to begin a life with my new wife and start a family. We were sold on the area because of the great neighborhoods, the administrations promises of a new waterfront and the many other imaginary improvements that has gone out the window. It is a travesty what our town has become. My wife and I shop locally every opportunity we can, but, we don't always need stationery supplies, dining out or to shop at a 99 cents store. There is not a single location in town that our preteens and teenage kids can go hangout except for the ymca (for a fee) or the boys and girls club. The movie theater is no longer even spoken about, so many failed businesses, illegal housing, the hospital fiasco and I don't feel safe walking around our downtown area at night, never mind allowing my own kid to go alone or with friends. Our downtown is a pathetic 1 block stretch of school street that has 3 pizzerias, a head shop, beer making supplies, wine shop...so you can get stoned and go for some pizza. Almost every neighborhood around us has a welcoming downtown. When will we have an elected official that will make a difference? So much for leaving Brooklyn!
