Regroup, Pull Together, Restock- Gas Now Odd/Even Filling & Editorial
Weekly newsletter for the North Shore of Long Island to update what is on sale (loss leaders) at the grocery stores and a section updates local gas prices
We realize many are still without power and heat but I thought it important to list the sales so all might restock. Our policy is to list loss leaders that are mostly non perishable and that is what we will continue to do. At the bottom of today's newsletter I have a special announcement.
Realizing Thanksgiving is in two weeks I point out that turkeys, spiral hams, potatoes, baking mixes, aluminum foil and other table items are on sale. Usually some of these items are not on sale the week prior to Thanksgiving. This is a profit center for supermarkets. Also don't forget to ask for rainchecks (poor wording) for sale items not available like batteries or water or soups.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
The wonderful hard working crews and the neighborly interaction in neighborhoods and in public places
GRIPE OF THE WEEK:
The inept handling of the gas situation. Odd/even should have been instituted immediately and stations should have had uniform hours to sell gas instead of the one by one selling at all different hours causing wasted gas, time and tempers.

EditorialWhen we started Saleaway, the purpose was to highlight local sale opportunities, as they say, on the hyper-local level. Loss leaders and gas prices seemed to be the best place to target. This space periodically also does pricing comparisons.
We will continue to provide this data, but we also hope to help businesses stay solvent and keep the community spirit. Feel free to email or call me if I can help and give a “shout out” in this weekly space. Saleaway can promote special opportunities, notices, endorsements, or recommendations. This will be done free-of-charge. Our email list is extensive and it is never shared or sold. Please support our good sponsors and encourage others to sign up for this free newsletter.
Anne Coughlin, Manager of TD Bank in Old Brookville (516-671-2808), suggested that merchants and local businesses apply for federal funds and low interest loans through federal programs. You might check websites or even call Anne.
This has been a month of Ground Hell. My family was without power for nine days and we were blessed. I know everyone has many horror stories. Sadly homes and lives were wrecked and too many are still without power.
Looking back, I’d like to share some of the few items and places that were a must. They include an AM Radio that runs on AA batteries, rechargeable LED flashlights, Phoenix Down bed comforters, a Styrofoam cooler, my blackberry and two spare batteries, a power strip, the public library with heat, wifi, and electricity, and lastly my police scanner for gas line locations.
New Yorkers are tough and we will recover. Good luck and God Bless!
