A Bayville man has been arraigned on charges of raping a 13-year-old Glen Cove girl he met on Facebook last month, Nassau County Police said.

Detectives said the victim, who lives in Glen Cove, met her attacker on Facebook in July. Ruiz-Hernandez arranged to meet the girl in Glen Cove on several occasions, detectives said.

Ruiz-Hernandez was arraigned Tuesday and is being held on $20,000 cash bail or bond, the Nassau District Attorney's office said. He is represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County and is due back in court Thursday.

Ruiz-Hernandez is charged with one count of second-degree rape and two counts of second-degree criminal sexual act, felonies.

He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted, the D.A.'s office said.

During the encounters, police said Ruiz-Hernandez engaged in sexual activity with the victim in his 2011 Nissan Maxima.

Glen Cove Police were contacted earlier this month and began a joint investigation with the Nassau County Special Victim’s Squad. That probe led to the arrest of Ruiz-Hernandez Monday, police said.

Detectives request anyone who may know of additional victims to contact Nassau County Special Victims Squad or your local police department.
