Cops Capture Locust Valley Man in Brutal Machete Attack

Two Glen Cove men suffer severe head wounds; Glen Cove Police hunt down suspect hiding in basement.

Glen Cove Police have charged a Locust Valley man with attempted murder following a vicious machete attack that left two Glen Cove men badly hurt.

The two victims were struck repeatedly with a machete in a Ford Street yard in Glen Cove just after midnight Thursday, said Det. Lt. John Nagle of the Glen Cove Police Department.

A 42-year-old victim suffered massive head trauma, including a depressed skull fracture, severe facial lacerations, and remains in a medically induced coma, Nagle said. 

The second victim, 33, was treated by medical personnel and received 24 staples to close the large lacerations to his head, he said.

The Glen Cove Detective Division launched an investigation and subsequent manhunt that led detectives to a home in Locust Valley on Monday. There, they found a man hiding in the basement; the defendant, Raul Garcia, was taken into custody, Nagle said. 

Garcia was charged with felony counts of attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Garcia was also charged on two open warrants for criminal possession of a weapon and criminal mischief

Garcia is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead Tuesday.
