UPDATED: Glen Head Crash Leaves Several Seriously Injured

Glen Cove Ave. closed in both directions as site is cordoned off as crime scene.

Police are investigating a horrific crash in Glen Head Friday morning that sent four people to area hospitals.

One person was airlifted to North Shore University Hospital Friday after a car struck a pedestrian and collided with another vehicle head-on on Glen Cove Ave. at 9:54 a.m. 

Glen Cove Ave. was closed in both directions in front of North Shore High School into the afternoon as Nassau County Police investigated the accident. Police said it "might be a while" before the road reopens.

A medivac helicopter landed on the baseball field at North Shore High School to transport one of the injured.

NBC News reported the pedestrian was a teacher who was crossing the street. The report states the 28-year-old driver of the Lexus was traveling at a high rate of speed and swerving when he struck the male teacher and then a car headed in the opposite direction, which was occupied by a couple in their 60's.

Calls to the North Shore School District were not immediately answered. The teacher has not been identified.
