Crimes Nearby: East Meadow Man Arrested in Hempstead Murder

East Meadow

An East Meadow man was arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of a Hempstead man, which took place on April 26.

According to Nassau County Homicide Squad detectives, a 911 call was received at 4:39 a.m. in regards to a male lying in the street on Martin Avenue in Hempstead. When Hempstead Police arrived, it was discovered that the victim had suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The man, identified as Stanley Cater, 47, of Hempstead, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff at 5:39 a.m. 

After an investigation, police arrested Herber Guzman, 40, of East Meadow. He has been charged with second degree murder.

Massapequa

A 16 year-old girl was attacked by a group who tried to steal her purse Thursday afternoon, police said.

The victim, who was walking home alone, was approached by a group of five or six Hispanic girls who also appeared to be teens on Merrick Road near Ocean Avenue at about 3:20 p.m., according to cops.

One of the gang knocked the victim's books out of her hands and demanded she give them money. When the victim reached down to pick up her books, the girl then kicked the victim in the stomach and tried to grab the handbag. 

Nothing was taken and the victim wasn't hurt badly.

A Massapequa Park homeowner entered stumbled upon a burglary when he entered his house Monday morning, police said.

The owner of a home on Cypress street surprised the burglar, who ran out of the house and fled the scene in a car, shortly before 11:30 a.m.

It wasn't immediately known what if anything was taken, and nobody was hurt.

The owner called 911. Police did not immediately release a description of the burglar or the vehicle.

Two teenage boys were reportedly robbed at gunpoint Thursday night by a group of men while they were walking to a bus stop in Lakeview.

According to police, the robbery occurred near Tanglewood Road around 10 p.m. The two victims, ages 14 and 17, apparently had their jewelry, sneakers and cell phones taken by a group of four or five unknown men.

The subjects had bandanas covering their faces and fled northbound on Tanglewood Road, police reported. No additional description of the subjects is available at this time.

Huntington

A man was arrested at an adult video store in Huntington Station Thursday for selling DVDs that contained bestiality content, according to police.

In response to community complaints regarding the sale of DVDs containing illegal content, investigating officers went to Pure Pleasure, located at 700 East Jericho Turnpike, and purchased two movies the viewed them in the parking lot on a portable DVD player. Police said the discs contained bestiality content.

Ajith Managodage, 51, who lives at the store, was arrested and charged him obscenity third degree, a misdemeanor.

Northport Village

A Northport police officer on patrol saw a 2001 BMW bearing Virginia registration on the "clammer's dock" facing into the parking lot around 2 a.m. on April 29. The officer interviewed the subject who stated that he was just enjoying the view of the water. When the officer advised him that he wasn't facing the water, he was facing the parking lot, the subject became belligerent stating he was a fisherman, his parents lived in Eatons Neck, and he worked for the Department of Defense "building weapons." The officer advised the subject that the dock was for working fishermen and he then left the location.
