Crimes Nearby: Endangering a Child, Bomb Threat

Babylon

A Copiague man was arrested on a felony DWI charge Saturday afternoon after police say he drove high on drugs with children in his car and caused a minor three-car crash in Babylon.

Reynaldo Jackson, 46, was driving a 1996 Nissan Maxima southbound on Deer Park Avenue at the intersection of Simon Street just before 4 p.m. when he rear-ended a 2011 Mazda that was stopped at a light, police said. 

The impact of the crash caused the Mazda to then strike a 1997 Jeep, police said.

Jackson’s 12-year-old son and 2-year-old grandson were in the Nissan and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip "to be checked out" after the accident, police said. No one else was injured.

Jackson was determined to be impaired by drugs at the scene, leading to his arrest, police said.

Jackson is charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child - a felony under Leandra’s Law - driving while ability impaired by drugs and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. 

Huntington

1. A 21-year-old man who had been shot twice earlier this year was killed Thursday in Huntington.

Cory Taylor-Culberth was found shot in the torso and died later at Huntington Hospital. He had been shot in two separate attacks in July, including one near Main Street in Huntington Village. A suspect is still in jail for the first two attacks.

2. Gregory Smith from Huntington was arrested in Huntington for sex offender registration violation, second offense.

3. Antonia Petrizzo from Huntington Station was arrested in Huntington for second-degree burglary of a dwelling.

4. Seth Rizzitano from Commack was arrested in Huntington for unlawful possession of marijuana.

5. Jean Crowe from Huntington was arrested in Huntington for second-degree harassment, physical contact.

Lindenhurst

A Lindenhurst student was arrested Monday afternoon for allegedly making a to , police said.

Last Thursday, police received a report that a dated for this Tuesday had been typed onto a classroom calculator inside of the school.

Following an investigation by detectives, the girl, 16, was arrested Monday at approximately 3 p.m., police said.

She was charged with first-degree falsely reporting an incident, a felony, police said.

Port Washington

1. Four Brooklyn men were arrested on Friday and accused of a midday robbery at London Jewelers Watch Boutique and Gift Gallery, located in the Americana Manhasset shopping center, according to Nassau County Police.

Police say the men entered the store, brandishing two handguns and a sledgehammer. They wore gloves, blue jumpsuits and black bandanas over their faces, according to police.

The accomplice with the sledgehammer smashed several display cases, and the fourth person removed numerous Rolex and Breitling watches, police say.

The men were arrested without incident in the Lake Success Country Club vicinity, after an extensive search by Nassau County Police, including special operations, canine and mounted units, and Lake Success and NYPD officers.

A handgun was recovered. A fifth man escaped and is being sought. The defendants have all been charged with robbery and criminal use of a firearm. Thirteen employees and one customer were in the store at the time of the robbery. There were no reported injuries.

2. After being involved in a domestic incident, a homeless man was placed under arrest at 125 Main Street on Oct. 9 at 3:05 p.m.

Garden City

1. Garden City police that occurred on Maxwell Road Wednesday afternoon. An alert neighbor observed the boys acting suspiciously and noticed a rear sliding door opened.

2. A Garden City police officer stopped a Westbury man for driving at 55 mph in a 30-mph zone and moving from lane to lane without signaling. Upon an investigation, the man was arrested for two counts of aggravated unlicensed operation for seven open suspensions and an administration violation, speeding, three lane violations, uninsured operation and defective lights.

Levittown

Crime Stoppers is seeking the public’s help in locating the person responsible for committing arson inside a Levittown church that is currently under construction.

According to police, the incident occurred a week ago inside the construction site of St. Thomas Orthodox Church. The fire resulted in approximately $70,000 in damage.

Farmingdale

Dean Nunez, 23, of Deer Park was arrested Oct. 11 and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, misdemeanor for unlicensed operation and several traffic violations.

Reports indicate Nunez was operating a motorcycle and weaving in between lanes on the east side of the Southern State Parkway east of Wantagh Parkway. A trooper stopped Nunez, and reported Nunez was operating a stolen 2007 Suzuki motorcycle without a license.

Massapequa

1. On Oct. 5, Alan Montiel, 22, of  Massapequa was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and one violation of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

2. On Oct. 6, Jeleisa Forbes, 21, of Jamaica, Queens was arrested on Hicksville Road, North Massapequa and charged with third-degree grand larceny.

Plainview

Nassau County Police have confirmed that numerous burglaries have been reported recently in the Plainview area.

No arrests have been made.

On Oct. 7, burglary, Audrey Avenue, Plainview; rear entry, no loss.

On Oct. 4, grand larceny, Old Country Road, Hicksville; power lawn tools stolen from truck.

On Oct. 4, grand larceny, Broadway Mall, Hicksville; wallet, credit cards stolen.

On Oct. 4, petit larceny, Ruth Drive, Jericho; tires and rims stolen from auto.

On Oct. 3, Lay Jewelers, Hicksville; diamond ring/necklace stolen.

On Oct. 6, robbery, Sears, Hicksville; Dolce & Gabbana cologne taken.

On Oct. 6, grand larceny, Executive Drive, Plainview; fraudulent activity.
