Notable police activity and arrests in the past week.

Glen Cove detectives seized 150 pounds of marijuana valued at $300,000 and arrested two men Monday following an investigation into suspicious packages at Mail Boxes Etc.

Glen Cove Police discovered two suspicious packages at the Mail Boxes Etc location at 5 Brewster Street in Glen Cove on Saturday and six more on Monday and called in a Nassau County drug-sniffing dog. When Larry Doss, 55, and his brother Ronny Windham, 52, both of Roosevelt, came to pick up the boxes, they were arrested and charged with first degree criminal possession of marijuana.

Cops Seeking Man Who Ripped Off Target

 The Nassau County Police need the public’s help in identifying a man who walked out of the Target in the Broadway Mall without paying for items on two occasions in August.


The incidents took place in Hicksville on Aug. 14, at about 2:46 p.m. and then on Friday, Aug. 16, at about 1:35 p.m.The suspect was seen inside Target taking a Blue Tooth key board and then a Switch Gear/Sherpa Laptop Case and leaving the store without paying for the items. 

The suspect fled in unknown directions. Crime Stoppers is asking anyone who can identify the subject or with any information about these crimes to call our toll free hotline: 1-800-244-TIPS (8477).

112th Community Council Warns of Burglary, Grand Larceny Schemes

The 112th Precinct Community Council is warning local residents of burglary and grand larceny patterns that have recently taken place in the community.

There has been a recent increase in residential burglaries within the precinct, which covers Forest Hills and Rego Park.

During all of the incidents, the burglar has entered into apartments through unlocked or open windows adjacent to fire escapes.

A majority of the incidents have taken place at apartment buildings along Queens Boulevard.

The 112th Precinct is calling on residents to not leave windows open or unlocked when leaving their residence or buzz anyone into the building unless they who know the person.

Additionally, residents should leave a light on when leaving during nighttime hours and calling 911 if they spot a person climbing on a fire escape.

Grand Larceny in Queens

Police in Queens are  asking residents to remain alert about a grand larceny scheme that has taken place during the past two weeks.

During each incident, the victim left their purse unattended in shopping carts or strollers at a variety of local stores, including Trader Joe’s, Key Food, Costco and McDonald’s.

In an Oct. 2 incident, a 54-year-woman was leaving an Astoria Federal Saving Bank on 108th Street when two female suspects distracted her by talking about her baby, while the third removed cash from her pocketbook, police said.

The suspects have been described as a white woman who is five-feet-six-inches, weighing an estimated 130 pounds, and a light skinned male in his early 20s.
