Crimes Nearby: Plainview Mother Charged With Manslaughter

Plainview

A Plainview mother will be in court Wednesday to answer charges in the death of her disabled 8-year-old daughter.

Veronica Cirella, 31, was charged with manslaughter Sunday after her daughter, Julie, was found dead Saturday in their Shelly Court home. Cirella was found nearby with a cord wrapped around her neck.

At Cirella's arraignment at Nassau University Medical Center Sunday, the Nassau County prosecutor said Cirella gave her daughter food that she was allergic to, and wrote a note saying that  "her daughter should die," prosecutor Zeena J. Abdi said.

Cirella is being held without bail.

Mineola
A Mineola man who is employed as a Hempstead police officer has been charged with selling prescription painkillers.
According to the , 38-year old Brian Jones allegedly sold the opiate-based prescription drugs clonazepam, oxycodone and oxymorphone to a “confidential informant” on May 2 as part of an ongoing investigation. Jones also allegedly sold the same person oxycodone on May 13 and oxymorphone on May 26.
Jones has been an officer with the Hempstead Police Department since Feb. 4, 2002. He has been suspended without pay.
If convicted, Jones faces up to 10 years in prison.

Garden City
Catalytic converters were stolen from three separate cars on July 12, 13 and 15.

East Meadow
A Lynbrook man to six years in prison for slashing a bouncer at in East Meadow, according to the Nassau County District Attorney's office.

According to officials, in Feb. 2010, Thomas King, 21, got into an argument with a security guard because he was denied entrance due to being underage. After one of the bouncers followed King to the parking lot, King slashed the bouncer three times with a sharp object, according to police.

Bellmore
On July 7 around 10 p.m., a suspect in his mid-teens attempted to buy beer at the located at 2736 Merrick Road in Bellmore. When a worker refused, the suspect took a Slurpee on the way out of the store. When worker confronted him, the suspect gave back the Slurpee. According to police, he had stolen items in the past.

Rockville Centre
On July 8, a Hewlett Harbor resident reported that an unknown person created forged checks that were cashed for a total of $17,560 against his Merrick Road, Rockville Centre law firm's checking account without permission. Nassau County Police Department First Squad is investigating.
