Mineola

Detectives from the are currently investigating a burglary in Mineola.

According to detectives, a man rang the doorbell at the home of a 90-year-old female victim at about 12:45 p.m. on Sept. 9.

The suspect falsely identified himself as a water company employee, saying he was on-site to read the meter.

After allowing the man into the house and accompanying him into the basement, the victim was told to go upstairs and turn on the water.

The man then returned upstairs and told the victim to perform another task in the basement.

Upon returning upstairs, she discovered the man exiting a bedroom. After being questioned by the victim, the man left the house, saying he had to go back to his truck for paperwork.

Suspicious of the man’s actions, the victim went into the bedroom and discovered that $200 in cash was missing from her dresser drawer and that the suspect had fled the scene. She called the police.

Garden City

After an investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a 30-year-old male from Brooklyn for opening a credit account using a forged license of an uninvolved person when purchasing $1,400 in clothing from Sears on Aug. 17. The subject was charged with identity theft, grand larceny and forgery.

Police reported a burglary in which the screen to an office window at the Garden City Pool was found broken and three checks, totalling $1,125, were determined to be missing from the building.

West Hempstead

A teen walking in West Hempstead last week was pistol-whipped during an attempted armed robbery, police said.

Nassau County Police are searching for four men who they say approached the 18-year-old male victim around 11:50 p.m. and ordered him to empty his pockets. One of the men had a handgun, detectives said, and when the victim replied that he had nothing, the perpetrator struck him on the head with the weapon, causing a laceration to his head. They then left the scene on foot in an unknown direction with no proceeds.
