Fatal Accident in Albertson Leaves 1 Dead from Glen Head

The accident involved a truck driver who died after his vehicle collided with a bus, police say. Two others were injured.

An accident involving a pickup truck and coach bus in Albertson left one person dead on Tuesday morning at 9:01 a.m.

According to detectives, Facundo R. Ponce, 43, of 36 Orchard Street, Glen Head, was driving a 2006 Dodge pick up truck south on Roslyn Road when he lost control and was redirected into the northbound lane and struck a bus owned by the Coach Bus Company. The bus then struck a tree. Ponce was pronounced dead upon arrival by a Nassau County Advanced Medical Technician, police said.

The 60-year-old male bus driver and a 38-year-old male passenger were both extricated from the bus by the Nassau County Emergency Service Unit. Both were then transported to a local hospital and treated for multiple injuries. They are both listed in critical condition. There were no other passengers on the bus, according to police.

Police had closed off Roslyn Road in both directions between IU Willets Road and Robbins Drive due to the accident. Motorists were asked to avoid the area.

The Dodge pick up was impounded for safety inspections. The bus was inspected and released.

The investigation is ongoing.
