Fire Damages Glen Cove Home

Blaze started in a pickup truck.

A fire that started in a pickup truck damaged a house in Glen Cove Wednesday, but was put out before extending to the rest of the home.

Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department chief Rodni Leftwich said his trucks were out on a separate call when they were dispatched to the Sherwood Rd. address at about 8:45 p.m.

He said no one was injured, though the owner was home at the time. He said the cause of the fire will be investigated.

Leftwich said most of the damage was limited to the garage attached to the house. The home's interior did sustain some smoke damage, he said.

The scorched pickup truck sat in the driveway as firefighters loaded up their equipment.

Asked if the fire was put out more quickly because fire trucks were already mobile when the call came in, Leftwich replied, "No, because that's what we do. We get there."
