Glen Cove Man Struck, Killed By Truck

City resident dies after attempting to cross Pratt Boulevard.

A pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck and killed this morning after police say he tried to cross Pratt Boulevard. 

According to Glen Cove Police detectives, resident Evelio Armas, 75, was walking across the street at a non-crosswalk area at about 6:45 a.m., when he was hit by the truck, which was driven by a 62-year-old man. An ambulance then transported Armas to Glen Cove Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Detectives were able to notify his family and his wife told them that he goes out for walks nearly every morning.

The driver, who was on his way to work and the only person in the truck, was not injured in the accident. Detectives do not expect any charges to be filed against him. 

The accident caused several traffic delays on Glen Cove Avenue near Glen Cove Public Library this morning because police had to investigate the accident scene.
