2 Glen Cove Men Arrested After Police Chase

The high-speed pursuit ended on Merrick Road after the driver struck a vehicle.

Two Glen Cove residents have been charged in a police chase that ended on Merrick Road on Sunday.

The driver, Jason Denobrega, age 23, and passenger, Jacob Bloom, age 21, were arrested Sunday after the high-speed pursuit and a subsequent accident.

According to New York State Police, troopers were dispatched to reports of cars racing on the Wantagh State Parkway near the Ocean Parkway, disrupting traffic. When troopers patrolled to the area they saw a gray Mazda RX-7 traveling at a high rate of speed around the Jones Beach traffic circle. The defendant then stopped in traffic lanes.

When troopers approached with emergency lights and siren activated, the Mazda took off westbound on the Ocean Parkway and proceeded to the northbound Meadowbrook State Parkway. 

The Mazda reached speeds in excess of 140 miles per hour while attempting to elude troopers.

The Mazda exited the Meadowbrook Parkway at Merrick Road and made an illegal U-turn when he struck an uninvolved motorist in the rear.

Denobrega was arrested for fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree and several traffic violations including speeding.

Bloom was arrested for criminal nuisance in the second degree.

Denobrega was held for arraignment in Nassau County First District Court.
