Glen Cove Woman Accused of Robbery Attempt

Nassau police say she tried to steal handbag.

A Glen Cove woman was arrested Wednesday and accused of attempted robbery.

Nassau County Second Squad police gave this account:

A 79-year-old woman standing outside her room at the Edgewood Motel was approached by Irene M. Halloran, 48, of 21-31 Brewster St., who asked for the time. When the victim looked down at her watch, Halloran pushed her to the ground and attempted to grab her handbag.

The victim was able to hold onto her bag, but suffered minor injuries to her left thigh, knee and right wrist.  The suspect fled but was caught a short time later in room 66 at the Jericho motel.

 Halloran is charged with second-degree robbery and will be arraigned on Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
