Glen Head Break-Ins Have Residents Concerned

Painkillers were only thing missing from one residence.

Three apparent attempted break-ins have residents in Glen Head concerned.

While it is not a crime wave, police are investigating three similar incidents in Glen Head in the last two weeks.

At least one of the break-ins was at an elderly woman's residence on The Promenade. Her son, Nick, who asked that his last name not be used, said his mother noticed painkillers missing one day in early August.

Police were not called initially, Nick said, but one week later his mother noticed a window had been broken and found more pills missing. Cash and a laptop were also visible and had not been taken.

She had recently had knee surgery and had a significant quantity of painkillers in the home, he said.

Nassau County police confirmed there was a report of a burglary at the address on Aug. 9.

On Saturday, Nick said his mother answered her front door to find a male who appeared to be in his teens. The person asked if they had the right address and left when she told him they did not.

Then on Monday, a neighbor across the street scared off what appeared to be a teenaged male who was looking through a window into the home, said Nick, who lives in New Jersey.

"I'm just worried about my mother. She's scared," he said.

Each incident occurred between 1 and 4 p.m., he said.

Two other burglaries were reported in Glen Head on Todd Drive and Todd Court on Sunday and Monday, respectively, according to police. They could provide no further details.
