State Police have charged a Glen Head woman under "Leandra's Law" after stopping her on the Southern State Parkway with two children in the car.
Troopers stopped the blue Mercedes-Benz for not having its head lights on at the Nassau Road exit of the Southern State Parkway on Friday at 9:45 p.m.
During the interview, the trooper detected an odor of alcohol on the driver, Maria Digioia, 36, of Glen Head, police said.
Digioia failed sobriety tests and was subsequently charged with DWI; there were two children inside her vehicle, state police said.
She was charged with Aggravated DWI, (a felony because of the
children under 16 in the vehicle) and traffic violations.
Digioia was held for arraignment in Nassau County First District Court. The children were released to a family member.
