A 59-year-old Glen Cove man was arrested Friday after spinning out on the wet pavement of Glen Cove Ave. and crashing head-on into another vehicle traveling in the same direction, according to Glen Cove police.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the man from his car as EMT's attended to him inside. He was freed after 10 minutes. He did not complain of any injuries but was taken to the hospital to be checked out, police said. He is suspected of DWI.
The accident occurred in the southbound lanes near the border with Sea Cliff, in front of the Kennedy Heights apartments, at around 3:30pm.
A 48-year-old Glen Head woman was driving the vehicle that was hit. She suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.
She said the man was two cars in front of her when she noticed him suddenly start swerving in and out of his lane, spin around and slam into her vehicle.
"I thought it was some teenagers or something," said the woman, who declined to give her name.
Kennedy Heights resident Wendy Sanchez consoled the woman as emergency vehicles pulled away. Sanchez said she saw the man's car spin around and bounce off a utility pole just before the collision.

"I thought he was dead," she said. "His eyes were rolled back in his head - I thought he was dead. He woke up after about five minutes and said, 'I'm OK, I'm OK.'"
The collision was the second incident of the day at the spot. Glen Cove EMS responded to an accident where a woman's vehicle struck a pole across the street at around 11am.
"There's always accidents here," Sanchez said of the curve at the intersection with Donahue St. She said vehicles travel fast up the hill. "We have too many kids that live here," she said.
