Man Charged with Boating DWI Off Glenwood Landing

A Garden City man was arrested and charged with boating while intoxicated Saturday night in Glenwood Landing, cops said.

According to Nassau CountyPolice, marine units were on routine patrol when they saw a 1999 Proline boat operating without its navigational lights, traveling south in Hempstead Harbor off the waters of Harry Tappen Beach.

After the boat was stopped, cops said that Nikolaos Katrakazos, 23, of Garden City, had watery and blood shot eyes, and also had slurred speech. He was arrested without incident, police added. The vessel was released to an occupant of the boat who was not intoxicated.

Katrakazos has been charged with boating while intoxicated, operating an unregistered vessel, navigation lights not displayed, improper display of validating stickers and no distress flag or flares. His arraignment is scheduled for Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
