Man Rescued After Boat Drifts in Sound Overnight

The boat's operator was evaluated for exposure Friday but was uninjured.

A Long Island man was rescued Friday afternoon after the disabled boat he had been in was located and towed to Brewer Yacht Yard in Glen Cove shortly after 12 p.m.

The boat had run out of gas on the water during the night and a Nassau County Police patrol boat towed the vessel in.

An ambulance was at the scene to evaluate the man for exposure, but police said he was not injured.

On the water at night without a cell phone or VHF? Strange.

Always have a cell and a back up plan when out there. Everyone needs to take safe boating classes before hand.
Can't Fix Stupid October 19, 2012 at 09:29 PM
Can't fix stupid. I have been boating for over 30 years - and yes I'm a big fan of education. But that said, you need to teach someone not to go out in the back half of October, with no fuel, and no form of communication? You need to teach someone not to go out on July 4th with 27 people on a 34 foot boat?

Can someone say poacher?

well said. I don't think "a class" would have helped in either case.
